Tebay and Orton Local Distinctiveness

Tebay

Tebay and Orton Local Distinctiveness Development project.

Acting on ideas brought forward by members of the Tebay and Orton communities, I have worked with them to develop three local interest groups.

Lunesdale Archaeology Society (LAS)

I have lead this group through a series of talks, workshops and an excavation at Low Borrowbridge Roman Fort in Tebay gorge. I will continue to work with them as on their HLF funding bid for more excavations at the site and the production of information such as teaching packs for the local schools.

Local Tourism Business group

I held several networking events for this group and worked in partnership with them and Eden Tourism to produce a ‘Visit Orton and Tebay’ leaflet. Following the success of the leaflet, I invited TIC staff from across Cumbria to tour the area on a ‘Cumbria Classic Coach’. They visited tourism providers and attractions along the way and the event was featured on the ITV ‘Lookaround’ programme.

Friends of Tebay Church group

A church that was in danger of closing has now been re-vamped and has an active friends group who continue to repair and renovate building. They are now developing the vestry, which they call ‘The Hub’, as a meeting and exhibition space and plan to start a community exchange.
