Valuing the landscape, its products and its people”
Sustaining farm and rural livelihoods in and around the Cumbrian Uplands

The Northern Fells Group is a charitable organisation run for the community by the community in a rural area centred around Hesket Newmarket. The project was to help fund a network of three Village Agents to ‘bridge the gap' between the local community, statutory and voluntary organisations offering help or support. The Agents will be local people employed on a part-time basis to engage with older and more vulnerable members of the community and become a trusted community member and resource. Below are details of the Awareness Days being run by the Village Agents.
Awareness Days
At Rosley Village Hall on the 10th November we had information stands from Cumbria Police, Fire Service, Mental Health Group, Alzheimers Society, Energy Saving, Computer queries, Homeshare Age UK, Northern Fells Group, Mini Bus, Eat and Heat Packs.
The day was attended by approximately 35 people, with lots of information given from all stands. The Fire Service took details from 18 people to arrange a home fire safety visit, Alzheimers Society gave out 7 full packs of information, Police sold 2 autodial alarms and gave out lots of leaflets. There were various computer queries answered and all Northern Fells services promoted.
All the stand providers gave a one minute overview of the information they were providing and we had a cookery demonstration with a free light lunch. Tea, coffee and cakes were served all day. It was an extremely useful and successful day.
The following day we held another Awareness day at Millhouse Village Hall, which was attended by approximately 60 people in total. We also had representatives from The Stroke Society and Calor Free Society as well as all the stall providers from the previous day. It followed the same format as the Rosley event, and again was very successful and enjoyed by all who attended.
