DECEMBER'S FEATURE: MELLOW MEADOW

CREATING READY PREPARED WHOLESOME MEALS DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR

Mellow Meadow

Leanne Duerden and Gillian Webster met at Myerscough College in 1998 and after successfully acquiring a National Diploma in Agriculture and also graduating in 2004 with First Class Honours (Gillian - 24) and Upper Second Class Honours (Leanne - 25).

With their strong farming backgrounds and a genuine love for the industry they wanted to pursue a project that would keep them close to British Farming and make folk more aware of how important it is to buy local quality produce.

Mellow MeadowTheir ideas pointed towards the specialist food sector and they applied to LEADER+ for help towards setting up their business through the purchase of kitchen equipment and utensils.

They are now producing a range of classic handmade soups, oven ready meals and desserts - good home cooking, frozen for convenience!

For the people of Morland real food is just around the corner and for those in other parts of Cumbria it is merely a click away www.mellowmeadow.co.uk!

Based in the picturesque village of MORLAND in the heart of the Eden Valley - "Mellow Meadows' food to come home" products are produced from inside an historic 1800s stone built barn. Future plans include opening a coffee bar and special deli coming soon.

Some comments from Gillian and Leanne

"Not many people can say they know how to grow a field of vegetables or rear livestock and then take this knowledge and use it to produce great tasting food - growing up on the farm has given me the ability to do this." - Gillian (G)

"People have told us time and time again that our food is just like real home-cooking - tasty and delicious, just what you need to come home to." (L)

"….our frozen meals only contain wholesome natural locally produced ingredients. Unlike most ready meals available today, we don't add preservatives, additives, colourings or flavourings." (G)

"Traceability is really important to us. We know that we use the best ingredients, but we want our customers to understand why we choose the products we do." (G)

"….absolutely, we want to help and support small local producers, like ourselves."(L)
