Taken April 2005
This Herdwick ewe is coming down the sorting race at Tilberthwaite
Farm prior to lambing at the end of April. All the animal
husbandry takes place in these specially designed wooden
pens usually known as sheepfolds. Sheep are brought into
the folds and sorted through a series of gates. This is
one of a group of ewes brought down from the fell where
she has wintered, she will lamb in the low ground and then
return to the high fells at the end of May. Glenn Wilkinson
is sorting these ewes into groups of early and late lambers
and those whose condition will require extra feeding.
