Taken in May 2005
This lamb is around 3 weeks old and is being marked for
the first time before going out to the open fell with its
mother. Herdwick lambs are born black, by September the
face and legs will have coloured out to become mainly white.
The lamb in the photograph is marked with a red pop to
the far shoulder and will also be lug (ear) marked Each
farm has a unique combination of smit and lug mark to identify
which farmer the sheep belong too.
