This photo of sheep being herded was taken in May 2005.
It shows farmer Michael Morland, of Starrah Farm, Kaber,
and his sheepdog, Spy. The photo was taken on the road up
to Hartley Fell. The sheep are Mule Hogs (now more often
known as North Country Mules) with their lambs. They are
a cross breed, from Bluefaced Leicester rams x Swaledale
ewes. This breed has mottled faces and no horns. The Bluefaced
Leicester has a very fine coat. The Swaledale is a hill
breed. After lambing they were being taken up to high pastures
for summering.
