Taken during clipping (shearing) time July 2005
After the sheep are shorn the fleeces are wrapped (rolled)
and packed into wool-sheets before being transported to
a depot at Carlisle to be weighed and graded prior to selling
for processing. George Birkett seen here sewing up a sheet
packed with fleeces will have been involved with the woolpacking
for nearly all his 85 years, he has shepherded Herdwick
sheep since he could walk.
