There is a surprising amount of arable cropping in the
Lakes. Here stubble turnips are growing well to provide
cheap and nutritious forage for fattening hoggs throughout
the winter. A bit like cattle grazing, a new area is fenced
off every few days so the turnips are eaten before they
are spoiled by treading.
